Brighter Futures

Lately, many people have been asking me to explain what a Brighter Future is. However, my answers have been too technical, sometimes leaving people confused and with even more questions.

A few days ago, we had a strategy session with my team on how to sell a Brighter Future and how we can define what the Brighter Future is. One of the guys showed me a picture which had a Walkman, typewriter, CDs, Floppy Discs, game boy, a radio, a calculator, a TV and so forth, which 20 years ago were the epitome of technology. He then said, “back then no one could have ever imagined that one day, all these things would fit in a car, but today almost everyone is walking around with all this and maybe even more in their pockets”.

It was only then that I realized that a Brighter Future cannot be defined, rather, we can only imagine what it can be like. To the younger generation in the township, a Brighter Future might entail providing food and shelter for their family, to a young man studying at a Crawford school, a Brighter Future might mean owning the most expensive car, while to some a Brighter Future could mean being part of the world changers.

So in all this, what I am trying to say is, everyone has their own imagination of a Brighter Future and only those who are courageous enough to act on their imagination can shape the future. We have people like Thomas Edison, the Wright Brothers, Henry Ford, Tim Berners-Lee, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, and Larry Page, to mention but a few, who have shaped the world to be what it is today. It’s no coincidence that these most famous inventors came from all walks of life with a common vision to deliver what they felt would make the world a better place.

So what is a Brighter Future? It is whatever you can imagine and are willing to work towards to achieve. What we or anyone else can only do is to give you the tools that you can use to shape your future and hopefully, the future of the world.

Brighter Futures offers IT training to equip learners with the necessary skills to help bring their imagination of a brighter future into reality and be ready to effect change in their lives.
